A Texas man was executed late Thursday night for the murder of his girlfriend and her 8-year-old son nearly 13 years ago, the Associated Press reported.
Cedric Ricks, 51, was pronounced dead after a lethal injection at the Huntsville prison.
He was sentenced to death for the May 2013 murders of 30-year-old Roxanne Sanchez and her son Anthony Figueroa in their apartment in the Dallas-Fort Worth suburb of Bedford. Sanchez's 12-year-old son, Marcus Figueroa, was also stabbed but survived.
Prosecutors said Ricks and Sanchez were arguing in their apartment when the woman's two sons from a previous marriage tried to break up the argument. Ricks grabbed a knife from the kitchen and began stabbing Sanchez repeatedly, court records show.
Marcus Figueroa ran to his bedroom and tried to call police. After killing Anthony Figueroa, Ricks began stabbing Marcus Figueroa, who played dead until his attacker left the apartment. Ricks did not harm his own 9-month-old son, Isaiah, according to court documents.
Ricks fled and was later arrested in Oklahoma.
