Under the leadership of US President Donald Trump, US Central Command carried out “one of the most powerful bombings in the history of the Middle East“ and completely destroyed all military targets on “the pearl in the crown of Iran“, Kharg Island, the head of state reported on Truth Social.
He said the operation was carried out only “minutes ago“.
Trump added that Iran will never have nuclear weapons and will not be able to “protect what we decide to attack“. He also announced his decision to preserve the oil infrastructure.
“Our weapons are the most powerful and sophisticated the world has ever known, but out of respect for decency, I have decided NOT to destroy the oil infrastructure on the island. However, if Iran or anyone else does anything to prevent the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider that decision“, the US president wrote.
Trump noted the critical importance of the island almost 40 years ago. In a 1988 interview with The Guardian, the businessman said: “I would be tough on Iran. They beat us psychologically, they make us look like fools. One shot at our people or ships and I would blow Kharg Island to pieces. I would invade and take it. Iran can't even beat Iraq, yet it tramples the United States. The world would benefit from fighting them.“
The Telegraph wrote that seizing the Iranian island of Kharg would allow the US president to control the regime in Iran without having to deploy US troops on the mainland.
