An explosion damaged a Jewish school in Amsterdam early this morning. The city's mayor, Femke Halsema, described the incident as a deliberate attack on the Jewish community, Dutch news agency ANP reported.
The explosion at the school, located in a prestigious residential area in the south of Amsterdam, caused only limited damage, Halsema said in a press release. She noted that police and fire departments arrived quickly at the scene of the incident.
No injuries were reported.
"This is a cowardly act of aggression against the Jewish community. Jews in Amsterdam are increasingly facing anti-Semitism. This is unacceptable," Halsema said.
Security measures at synagogues and Jewish institutions in the Dutch capital have already been tightened after an arson attack on a synagogue in the center of Rotterdam on Friday night.
On Monday, an explosion caused a fire at a synagogue in the Belgian city of Liege.
Fears of possible attacks on Jewish communities around the world have increased after US and Israeli strikes on Iran and subsequent retaliation by Tehran, Reuters notes.
