Iran's new Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, is well and may make a new address soon, Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Esmail Baghaei said.

“I can tell you that he is well“, Baghaei told NDTV.

“You have already heard about his address and I hope that he will make another address to the public very soon“, the Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister stressed.

He noted that the conflict in the Middle East is “a war imposed by the United States and Israel against Iran“. “Iranians are determined to defend their homeland, and that is what we are doing now,“ Baghaei noted.

On February 28, the United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran. Major Iranian cities, including Tehran, were hit. The White House justified the attack, citing missile and nuclear threats from Tehran. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps announced a large-scale retaliatory operation, attacking targets in Israel.

US targets in Bahrain, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE and Saudi Arabia were also hit.

The strikes on Iran killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several other key figures in the country's leadership.

The Assembly of Experts of the Islamic Republic of Iran later announced the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as the country's new Supreme Leader.
