At an election event of the Christian Democratic Union in Bad Dürkheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz admitted to cooling relations between Germany and the United States after the US and Israeli attack on Iran.
“US President Donald Trump doesn't speak very well of me at the moment“, Merz said.
On March 17, Merz said that Germany would not intervene in the fighting in the Middle East and did not intend to participate militarily in ensuring freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Previously, Merz said that the US and Israeli military actions against Iran have nothing to do with NATO.
DPA also reported that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius had refused a US request to send navy in operation to unblock the Strait of Hormuz.
