The United States is considering the possibility of a ground operation to seize the Iranian island of Kharg, the Jerusalem Post newspaper reported, citing informed sources.
According to them, senior American officials have informed their counterparts in Israel and other countries in recent days that the United States has no alternative but to launch a ground military operation to seize the island.
A US official told the publication that "the US military has accelerated the deployment of thousands of Marines and Navy personnel to the Middle East".
The Axios portal earlier reported that the US administration is considering options for seizing or isolating Kharg Island, a key point for Iran to secure its oil exports.
This publication appeared after the strikes carried out by The US struck the island. Sources at the portal explained that the airstrike was intended to convince Tehran to open the Strait of Hormuz, and the strikes were a preparatory move to weaken Iranian military positions in preparation for a possible ground operation.
