Russia views “extremely negatively“ any escalation of the Iranian conflict towards the Caspian Sea, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reports.
When asked about the current state of negotiations between Washington and Tehran, Peskov replied that Moscow is witnessing contradictory statements from both sides.
The Kremlin spokesman noted that Iran had shown readiness and openness to negotiate with the US until the very beginning of the US-Israeli strikes against Tehran on February 28, TASS reported.
“Iran has confirmed this in practice. And in fact, until the last moment, until the start of hostilities, until the first strike on Iran, Tehran remained open to continuing negotiations. And these negotiations have progressed quite successfully," Peskov pointed out.
Yesterday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation by phone with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi and also expressed concern about the expansion of the US and Israeli war against Iran towards the Caspian Sea.
