US President Donald Trump has expressed his support for his "friend", conservative Hungarian nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban, urging Hungarians to support him in the elections to be held next month, Agence France-Presse reported.
"Hungary: GO VOTE FOR VIKTOR ORBAN. He is a true friend, a fighter and a WINNER, and has my full and unconditional support for his re-election as Prime Minister of Hungary," Trump wrote on his social network Truth Social.
Ultraconservative Viktor Orban, in power in Hungary since 2010, is at a disadvantage according to independent polls for the Hungarian parliamentary elections on April 12, in which he hopes to win a fifth term.
Congratulating the Hungarian leader on his "fight against illegal immigration" and "restoration of public order", the US president also said that Hungary and the US were reaching "new heights in cooperation".
