Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said today that a nuclear clash between Israel and Iran has become inevitable in one form or another, and the actions of the US and Israel have only contributed to bringing this scenario closer, reports Voennoe delo, quoted by Focus.
In his assessment, despite Washington's stated desire to eliminate the nuclear threat in the Middle East, recent events have increased the risks of this. Medvedev believes that the military operation has not eliminated the causes of a potential conflict, but rather has pushed both sides towards its escalation.
''Now a nuclear conflict between Israel and Iran is inevitable in some form. As sad and gloomy as it may be to admit,'' Medvedev answered a question from journalists.
The military campaign against Iran began on February 28. The United States and Israel launched joint strikes on various targets, including in Tehran. In response, Iran launched attacks on Israeli territory, as well as on American military facilities in the Middle East.
Washington and Tel Aviv explained the preventive nature of the operation and pointed to the threats posed by Iran's nuclear program.
