The number of US military personnel in the Middle East has surpassed 50,000, according to The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, this milestone was surpassed with the arrival of 2,500 Marines and 2,500 sailors in the region.
It is noted that the current number of US troops in the Middle East is 10,000 above the standard.
This does not include 4,500 US service members stationed on the aircraft carrier "Gerald R. Ford", which caught fire in mid-March.
The ship then left the Red Sea and via Crete arrived in the port of Split on the Adriatic coast of Croatia for maintenance.
