A civilian plane entered the no-fly zone near US President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and was intercepted by F-16 fighter jets, DPA reported, citing the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), BTA reported.

The fighter jets fired flares to attract the pilot's attention or make contact with the plane. They then safely escorted him out of the no-fly zone.

The flares initially burn up completely in the air, so there was no risk to people on the ground, the command said.

The military did not specify how many fighters were scrambled or what type of civilian aircraft the plane was.

The area around the Mar-a-Lago estate is often subject to temporary air traffic restrictions when the president is there. Donald Trump spends many weekends at the estate, especially in the winter. He was there over the past weekend.
