The Radio Free Europe (RFE) team for North Macedonia is parting ways with its audience. As of today, the media outlet is ceasing operations due to a rethink of the ways in which RFE/RL allocates its resources, said President and CEO Steven Kapus, BTA reported.

The editorial staff of Radio Free Europe thanks its audience for their trust, attention, support and commitment, which, according to the journalists on the team, have given meaning to their work.

„Although our broadcasts and programs end on March 31, we hope that the values we have stood for - truth, responsibility and freedom of information - will continue to exist. "Thank you for being part of our history," reads the message on the website of the RFE/RL editorial office for North Macedonia.

Radio „Free Europe“ began operating in the country on September 1, 2001.

In March 2025, US President Donald Trump ordered a drastic reduction in the activities of the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which is responsible for public media operating in dozens of languages only for abroad, such as Radio "Free Europe"/Radio "Liberty" (RFE/RL) and "Voice of America" (VOA).
