Austria has not allowed the US to use its airspace for military operations in Iran, the Ministry of Defense in Vienna said, quoted by APA, BTA reported.

The reason for this is the Austrian neutrality law. The ministry did not answer the question of how many times requests for military aircraft to pass through Austrian airspace had been made. The department only noted that there had been "several" such requests and that each of them had been examined together with the Austrian Foreign Ministry.

The Austrian Social Democratic Party (SPD) has insisted that the government continue to adhere to this course. "Defense Minister Claudia Tanner (from the Austrian People's Party – ANP) must not allow a single US military plane to fly to the Gulf. Nor any transport planes or similar logistical support. Just like Spain, France, Italy and Switzerland did. This war is damaging Austrian economic interests, Europe as a whole and world peace", said Sven Hergovich, the regional chairman of the Austrian People's Party in Lower Austria.

Spain closed its airspace to military flights related to the war in Iran on Monday. Italy banned several US planes from landing at a military airport on the island of Sicily.
