A highway bridge has collapsed in the Italian region of Molise, ANSA reported. The incident occurred at the height of a wave of bad weather in Italy, BTA reported.
The bridge was on the Adriatic Highway 16 over the Trigno River near Montenero di Bisachia.
Due to the rising waters of the river due to heavy rains, the bridge was placed under surveillance and the highway was closed yesterday. So, when it collapsed into the river, there were no casualties.
As a result of the collapse, roads leading to the neighboring region of Abruzzo were cut off.
In a number of places in Italy, the bad weather caused floods and landslides.
Authorities warn that heavy rains and strong winds will persist for another 24 hours, but for Easter, which Catholics celebrate this Sunday, the weather will be sunny and warm again, with temperatures up to 25 degrees Celsius.
