The US and Israel have bombed the Bushehr nuclear power plant four times, but these attacks pose a greater threat to the Persian Gulf countries, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in X.

„Radioactive waste will end life in the capitals of the Persian Gulf countries, not in Tehran. Attacks on our petrochemical facilities also have real goals“, he wrote.

The minister suggested recalling the „indignation“ expressed by Western countries regarding the shelling of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.

According to the head of „Rosatom“ Alexey Likhachev, the reactor at the Bushehr nuclear power plant contains 72 tons of nuclear fuel, and another 210 tons of spent fuel are in the spent fuel pools. “This is a huge mass of fissile material“, he noted, adding that an accident would be a regional disaster, something that all parties to the conflict, “regardless of their political affiliation”, must understand. He compared the possible consequences of a direct hit to the Chernobyl disaster.

The Bushehr nuclear power plant has suffered its fourth attack since the start of the US-Israeli military operation against Iran. The explosion killed an employee and damaged an auxiliary building.
