Next week, US lawmakers will try again to pass a resolution aimed at ending the war with Iran. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer announced this at a press conference in New York, Reuters reported.

He added that Democrats would try to force US President Donald Trump to get congressional approval for any further attacks.

Schumer criticized the military conflict against Iran, saying it had failed to weaken the country's power or limit its nuclear program, but had also led to a rise in global fuel prices. He called Trump's statements on the subject "inadequate." On March 19, the US Senate rejected a Democratic resolution to limit Trump's military powers for the second time. Forty-seven senators voted in favor of the document, while 53 voted against. On the night of April 8, the US president announced his agreement to a two-week ceasefire with Iran. He added that he had agreed to this on the condition that the Strait of Hormuz be fully opened. Trump said that he had received a ten-point proposal from Tehran that could serve as a basis for negotiations. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said on the evening of April 8 that the negotiations and ceasefire with the US were meaningless due to violations of three points of the agreed agreement. These include Israel's attack on Lebanon, the violation of Iranian airspace, and the Islamic Republic's refusal to enrich uranium.

On April 7, Axios, citing sources, reported that Democratic members of Congress were discussing a joint impeachment motion against Trump over the military action against Iran. The Wall Street Journal reported that more than 20 lawmakers had called for the president's resignation.
