The Washington administration intends to demand the release of Americans detained in the Islamic Republic during upcoming consultations with Iran, The Washington Post (WP) reported.

According to sources in the publication, US authorities “intend to demand the release of Americans detained in Iran during upcoming talks“ in Pakistan. The publication notes that “it is not yet clear how decisively“ administration officials will pursue this. If talks prove difficult, this “request could be postponed“, the sources specified.

White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly, commenting on this information, told reporters of the publication that “The US does not negotiate through the media“. The newspaper estimates that “at least six Americans are being held in Iran“.
