Ukrainian and Russian sources have accused each other of violating the short-term ceasefire agreed by the Kremlin during Orthodox Easter on April 11 and 12.

The Ukrainian General Staff reported on April 12 that Russian forces had violated the ceasefire 2,299 times as of 07:00 local time on April 12, including 28 ground attacks, 479 artillery strikes, 747 Lancet munitions barge and Molnia fixed-wing first-person-view (FPV) drone strikes, as well as 767 other drone strikes with FPV.

This is according to the "Institute for the Study of War" (ISW).

The Ukrainian General Staff reported that Russian forces have not carried out missile strikes, guided glide bombs, or strikes with Shahed long-range drones since the ceasefire began. Ukrainian officials reported on April 11 and 12 that Russian forces had continued artillery and FPV drone strikes since the ceasefire began in the Liman and Pokrovsk directions and in the Kharkiv and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The Sumy Oblast authorities reported that Russian forces had carried out a drone strike against an ambulance in the Glukhovsky municipality, Sumy Oblast, on the night of April 11-12, wounding three medics.

The Ukrainian authorities also reported that Russian forces had carried out Molniya drone strikes in the Kharkiv Oblast, which damaged a shop and wounded two civilians in Zolochiv and damaged buildings in Klinova-Novoselivka and Odnorobivka, and that a Molniya drone fell in a garden in Derkhachi on 12 April, but caused no casualties.

On 12 April, the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD) said that Ukrainian forces had violated the ceasefire 1,971 times between the start of the ceasefire at 16:00 local time on 11 April and 08:00 local time on 12 April, including eight ground attacks in Sumy, Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions; 258 artillery strikes in border areas and against Russian positions; and 1,329 FPV drone strikes.

Kursk Oblast Governor Alexander Khinshtein said on April 11 that Ukrainian forces carried out a drone strike on a gas station in Lgov, Kursk Oblast, wounding three civilians, after the ceasefire began.

Belgorod Oblast Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on April 11 that a Ukrainian drone strike wounded two civilians in Shebekino, Belgorod Oblast.

Russian forces committed a war crime in Kharkiv Oblast on April 11. The Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine released footage and reported on April 12 that Russian forces executed four Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs) on April 11 after entering Ukrainian positions near Veterinarne (north of the city of Kharkiv).

A spokesman for Ukraine's 14th Army Corps (AK), Vitaly Sarantsev, reported on April 12 that Russian forces launched an attack near Veterinarne after 2:00 p.m. local time on April 11, before the ceasefire, and that the attack lasted several hours and resulted in the capture of Ukrainian positions.

The spokesman stressed that Russian forces fired on unarmed Ukrainian servicemen after the ceasefire began at 4:00 p.m. local time. The execution of prisoners of war is a war crime that violates the Geneva Convention relative to the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

ISW continues to assess that the Russian military command approves and sometimes orders war crimes on the battlefield, including the execution of prisoners of war.
