Two Romanian citizens have been arrested in Italy for a severe beating that left a 47-year-old man dead in front of his son and fiancée in the Italian city of Massa, Italian media outlets including ANSA, “Mattino“, “Corriere della Sera“ and others reported, BTA reported.

The detainees have been identified as Ionut Alexandru Miron, 23, and Eduard Alin Carutazu, 19, Corriere Fiorentino and “Mattino” reported. Three other minors have been identified who also participated in the beating of 47-year-old Giacomo Bongiorni. Their names have not been released. They are now being held in a special center for minor suspects.

The crime was committed shortly after midnight on Saturday and Sunday. Giacomo, along with his fiancée Sara, whom he was due to marry in the summer, and his 11-year-old son from his first marriage, were at a show and then at dinner with acquaintances at a local restaurant. On leaving the restaurant, the three, accompanied by Sara's brother - Gabriele, came across a group of drunken youths who were throwing glass bottles at a shop window. When Giacomo and Gabriele made a remark to the youths, they surrounded them and subjected them to a brutal beating. At some point during the beating, Giacomo was knocked to the ground, where he hit his head, and the attackers continued to punch and kick him until they found him dead. Giacomo's fiancée says that the 11-year-old son of the deceased went into shock and had to be taken to hospital. Her brother has a fractured leg and nose as a result of the attack.

The crime has shocked Italy and revived the debate about the need for more security measures. Francesco Persiani, mayor of the city of Massa, announced that there will be a procession in memory of the deceased tomorrow. Giacomo's relatives say that he was a very capable mechanical engineer.

Regarding the murder, Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini called for the harshest punishment for Giacomo's killers, regardless of their age or nationality. And former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said that Italian cities are abandoned to their fate and the government is doing nothing to improve security.
