Several of 14 people kidnapped in Nigeria on Wednesday have been rescued, Nigerian police said last night, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reported.
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the kidnapping. Police clarified that the kidnapped were not in fact young people traveling to sit for university entrance exams, as previously reported, but passengers on a bus traveling to the city of Makurdi.
The security forces also said that an operation was underway to rescue the kidnapped in Amla forest and neighboring areas. Several of the kidnapped were rescued during the operation and are currently receiving medical attention. Kidnappings for ransom are common in Nigeria, but there has been a significant increase in the number of these criminal acts in recent months.
