31-year-old Shamar Epkins, a US Army veteran, killed eight children in Shreveport, Louisiana, The New York Post reports.
Seven of the children were his. The victims are between the ages of 1 and 14.
According to the newspaper, the eighth child killed tried to escape, but was shot by the killer. According to KSLA, another child managed to escape by jumping from a roof.
As a result of the shooting, which took place on the morning of April 19, two women also received gunshot wounds to the head, one of whom had a relationship with the shooter. One of the victims' injuries are considered life-threatening.
After the shooting, Elkins, according to The New York Post, stole a car and tried to flee to a neighboring city, but was shot and killed by pursuing police.
