US President Donald Trump warned that Washington could impose "big tariffs" of the United Kingdom if it does not repeal the digital services tax, ABC News reported.

"We can respond to that very easily by just putting high tariffs on the United Kingdom, so they better be careful", Trump told reporters at the White House.

"If they do not repeal the tax, we will probably put high tariffs on the United Kingdom," the US president added.

When asked what kind of tariffs he was considering, Trump said they would be "higher than what they get".

The United Kingdom's digital services tax, introduced in 2020, is a 2% tax on the revenues of global technology companies that derive significant value from consumers in the United Kingdom through digital services, including social media, search engines and online marketplaces.

It applies to companies with global revenues of these services over £500 million and at least £25 million arising from UK consumers.
