US President Donald Trump told Fox News that he is communicating with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, as well as with Ukrainian Volodymyr Zelensky, regarding the settlement of the conflict.
"I don't want to reveal details, but I am negotiating with Putin, negotiating with President Zelensky, good negotiations", Trump said in response to the question of when he last spoke with the Russian president.
However, he did not specify when the last conversation with the Russian leader was.
"We are working on the issue of relations between Russia and Ukraine and I hope that we will resolve it,", the American leader added.
The last time Putin and Trump spoke by phone was on March 9. Presidential aide Yuri Ushakov reported at the time that Trump had called Putin to "discuss a number of extremely important topics related to the current development of the international situation".
"The emphasis, of course, was on the situation surrounding the conflict with Iran and on the trilateral negotiations to resolve the Ukrainian conflict, in which representatives of the United States are participating," Ushakov said, describing the conversation as "businesslike, frank and constructive"; it lasted about an hour.
Trump described the conversation with his Russian counterpart as "good". "As for Ukraine, it was a positive conversation," he said. The presidents had previously spoken by phone in late December 2025.
This week, Trump said he considered it necessary to talk to Putin. "I believe that everyone should be talked to. I'm not one of those who say: "Oh, let's not talk to him". You know, there's a war - let's not talk to him. I like to talk to everyone," he emphasized.
The American leader spoke with Zelensky by phone in late February.
