The situation is worst in the regional capital Recife and surrounding areas.

Four deaths have been reported so far. The exact number of victims is being determined.
According to the TV channel, local hospitals are working in an intensive mode, providing care to victims with injuries of varying severity.
Rescue operations are continuing in the most affected areas, involving fire departments and civil protection services.
Rescuers are also evacuating residents from high-risk areas.
