A Spanish citizen has tested positive for hantavirus after disembarking from the MV Hondius cruise ship, the Spanish Minister of Health announced, Focus reports.
In a post on the social network X, the minister indicated that the patient was hospitalized in Madrid and remains in isolation, currently showing no symptoms of the disease.
Another 13 Spanish citizens who traveled on the same ship tested negative.
A total of 14 Spaniards were among the passengers on the expedition cruise ship operated by Oceanwide Expeditions. A deadly outbreak was recorded on board after sailing in the southern Argentine region.
On May 10, the ship docked in the Canary Islands, from where all passengers were evacuated and transported to their countries.
In France, health authorities have identified 22 people who may have been exposed to the virus after contact with an infected passenger.
A case of hantavirus was previously confirmed in one of the French women evacuated from the ship. Symptoms appeared during the repatriation flight from Tenerife.
Two other passengers are quarantined in Italy after traveling on a plane from South Africa to the Netherlands that had an infected passenger from the cruise ship.
