According to a report by the US Congressional Budget Office, the total cost of developing, deploying and operating the US missile defense system “Golden Dome“ could reach approximately $1.2 trillion.

“Developing, deploying and operating a national missile defense system with capabilities that generally match those specified in the executive order would cost approximately $1.2 trillion over 20 years,” the report states.

According to the agency's estimates, the largest costs will be for weapons purchases, amounting to approximately $1.03 trillion. The most expensive element will be space-based interceptor systems, representing approximately 70% of the cost of the purchased weapons (or approximately 60% of the total cost).

According to the report, the creation of “Golden Dome“ includes the deployment of an orbital constellation of 7,800 satellites, maintaining the existing missile defense facility at Fort Greeley, Alaska, and the construction of two more facilities with early warning radars and 120 interceptor missiles. “Golden Dome“ will also include four Aegis Ashore ground-based missile defense systems in the continental United States, each equipped with 48 SM-3 Block IIA surface-to-air missiles.

Another element of “Golden Dome“ will be the deployment of 35 missile defense sectors with SM-3 Block IIA and SM-6 Block IB surface-to-air missiles, Patriot PAC-3 systems MSE and Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD), as well as advanced Glide Phase Interceptor (GPI) hypersonic missile interception systems.
