At least eight people have died and 38 are trapped underground after a gas explosion at a coal mine in China's Shaanxi province.
This was reported by the Xinhua news agency, citing the local emergency management agency.
It is noted that the deaths of the miners were caused by carbon monoxide levels exceeding permissible levels. Rescuers have so far managed to evacuate 201 people and recover the bodies of eight of the dead.
The cause of the incident is unknown. Efforts to evacuate the remaining miners underground are ongoing, the agency added.
