Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that 340 Ukrainian drones had been targeted in the area around the Russian capital in the past 24 hours and that most of them were shot down by air defense units far from the city, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
“Most of them were neutralized by air defense forces on the outskirts“, Sobyanin wrote on Telegram. "More than 50 enemy drones were destroyed before they reached Moscow," he added.
Ukrainian drones regularly target the Russian capital and Sobyanin provides up-to-date information on the number of those shot down by anti-aircraft units, Reuters reports.
Ukraine has stepped up its attacks on Russian infrastructure, mainly related to the oil industry.
Ukrainian armed forces said last night that they had carried out drone strikes on the Salavat petrochemical complex in the Ural Mountains and the Afipsk oil refinery in southern Russia. The attacks on oil infrastructure have contributed to a gasoline shortage across Russia.
In recent weeks, Russian forces have stepped up their drone and missile attacks on Kiev.
Russia fired a series of drones and ballistic missiles at Kiev last night, the fifth such attack on the Ukrainian capital this month.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the attacks damaged 16 sites in the capital, including a school and a business building, and city officials reported several fires in different parts of the city.
