The situation on the front in Ukraine and in the border regions remains critical as of 18:00 on August 22.
Over the past 24 hours, Russian occupation forces have made new advances in the Donetsk region, occupying a settlement in the immediate vicinity of the strategic city of Pokrovsk, and have noted tactical advances in the Kharkiv region. In parallel, a wave of airstrikes led to dozens of civilian casualties in Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhia, and Ukrainian forces responded with massive drone attacks against military and oil logistics deep in Russian territory.
DeepState: Russian breakthrough near Pokrovsk and offensive in Kharkiv region
According to the current map of the fighting, updated by the Ukrainian analytical OSINT project DeepState, Russian units have occupied a settlement in the Pokrovsk direction and have advanced into the Kharkiv region (specifically around Petropavlovka). The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) defines the Pokrovskaya sector as one of the most heated, where Ukrainian defenders continue to repel dozens of attacks within 24 hours, trying to contain the pressure of Moscow's infantry forces.
The tragedy in Krivoy Rog and Zaporizhia: Dozens of civilians killed and injured
Kryvyi Rih was plunged into grief after the brutal double drone strike against the largest shopping center in the city, “Sunny Gallery“. According to the latest data from local authorities, the number of dead reached 16 people, and over 130 were injured. Among the victims were young women, employees of the store, and local media reported that “they each had two children“ (source: dnepr.express). The Russian army struck in two waves – the second strike was deliberately launched when emergency services and firefighters had already arrived at the scene.
Heavy attacks were also recorded in the Zaporizhia region today. The head of the Zaporizhia regional military administration, Ivan Fedorov, reported on his official Telegram channel (source: t.me/ivan_fedorov_zap) that the Russians had struck a total of 7 times in the region, killing 3 people and injuring 17 others, including a child. Dozens of private houses were seriously damaged.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces' retaliatory strike: Oil terminals in Yeysk and Samara caught fire
The Ukrainian Defense Forces conducted a successful counter-operation behind enemy lines. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation officially confirmed that Ukrainian units had hit the fuel and lubricant tanks of the Yeysk oil-filling complex in the Krasnodar Territory. The facility, which is part of the port infrastructure of the Sea of Azov, is actively used to supply the Russian occupation army. After the precise hit, a large-scale fire broke out there.
Meanwhile, the governor of the Russian Samara region, Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, spoke on his channel about the consequences of a large-scale night drone attack. He acknowledged serious damage to an industrial enterprise (Novokuybyshev Oil Refinery) and a large logistics hub of the Ozon company in Chapaevsk, where a fire broke out and one elderly woman was reported dead and several injured. Over 500 employees of the warehouse were evacuated minutes before the explosion.
Historical memory against the backdrop of war: UNR equipment restored
Despite the heavy fighting, Ukraine finds the strength to preserve its history. In Kiev, at the initiative of the Third Army Corps and thanks to specialists from the company “UkrArmoTech“, an authentic armored car (Austin armored car) and a cannon from the army of the Ukrainian People's Republic (UNR) from the beginning of the 20th century were completely restored and exhibited on Arsenal Square. The project is dedicated to the historic return to Ukraine of the remains of Colonel Yevgeny Konovalets. Engineers managed to restore the running qualities of the combat vehicle, maintaining full historical authenticity without traces of modern interference.
