Israel has warned the Palestinian group "Hamas" on Sunday that it would step up operations in Gaza if the launching of kites, drones and balloons into Israel continued, AFP reported.
Israeli media reported that four kites were found in settlements near the Gaza border on Saturday and one was shot down by the army on Sunday, bringing the total number of kites found in recent days to about ten.
The Israeli military reportedly believes Hamas was behind the launches, which did not carry explosives, and may have been testing Israel's response.
"Israel warns "Hamas" that the army will launch operations against those responsible and evacuate the population from areas where kites, drones and balloons are being launched," Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz said in a joint statement.
They said they held a security assessment with senior military and security officials on Sunday to discuss the issue.
The latest incidents have revived memories of waves of rockets fired from Gaza in previous years that have set fires in farmland in southern Israel.
Uri Epstein, a leader of Gaza's border communities - many of which were attacked by Hamas on October 7, 2023 - told Channel 12 that "after October 7, we will no longer tolerate the words 'Everything will be fine'. It is the army's responsibility to act in a timely manner."
