The United States will defend every centimeter of the territory of NATO members in Europe if Russia launches an attack, said Sabrina Singh from the press service of the Pentagon, reported the ukrinform agency.
The United States stands ready to meet its obligations to defend NATO member states, including those related to Russian missile attacks that could threaten Poland, she said after a Russian missile entered Polish airspace.
"We will defend every inch of NATO territory. If a NATO ally is attacked - we, of course, would not like to see that - but we will defend every centimeter of NATO territory," she said, responding to the Polish side's statement about the possibility of destroying Russian missiles if necessary.
At the same time, the Pentagon representative noted that the priority for the US in this context remains providing Ukraine with the necessary weapons: “After we receive a package of additional funding from Congress, we will continue to arm Ukraine with what it needs on the battlefield".
Poland and NATO were recently reported to have discussed potential defensive measures following the violation of Polish airspace by a Russian cruise missile, the Foreign Ministry in Warsaw said. Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Szykorski has spoken with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg about the possibility of strengthening the security of Polish airspace and the airspace of the alliance, the department announced.
