Voting in local elections in Turkey has ended. According to data from the High Electoral Commission, it went smoothly.

Incidents were reported but did not affect the vote.

More than 61 million voters had the right to participate in today's vote.

Meanwhile, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan urged citizens "not to leave the polling stations until the last vote is counted and the results are finalized in order to protect the will of the people."

According to the first data, the mayor of the capital Ankara, who is from the largest opposition force in the country, the People's Republican Party (NRP), Mansur Yavash, received 55.25% of the votes. The candidate of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), Turgut Altnok, received 36.5 percent of the vote.

A runoff is expected in Istanbul at this stage.

The current mayor of Turkey's largest city, Ekrem Imamoglu (NRP), took 49.52 percent of the vote. His opponent from the party of Recep Erdogan - Murat Kurum – 41, 72, wrote the local Hurriet.
