Ukrainian intelligence has vowed to destroy the Crimean bridge of the Russian occupiers in the Black Sea by the end of June, reported The Guardian.
Amid the successful attacks on Russian oil refineries deep inside Russian territory, the Main Intelligence Directorate in Kiev, which is behind these operations, is looking at another target - the Crimean bridge that connects Russia to the occupied peninsula, the publication writes.
Citing sources in the GUR, The Guardian states that their ambition is to demolish the bridge in the first half of 2024. Ukrainian services are planning a new attack on the bridge, details of how and when it will be carried out are not disclosed.
For Putin, the bridge is one of his greatest political achievements: it symbolizes the “return” on the peninsula of Russia in 2014. For Kiev, the bridge is an equally hated symbol of the illegal annexation of the peninsula. Its destruction will boost the morale of Ukrainians.
„We will do this in the first half of 2024,” said a senior GUR official, adding that Ukrainian intelligence chief Kyrylo Budanov already has “most of the means to realize this goal”. According to Kiev, it is “inevitable“ the bridge to be destroyed.
The publication notes that it is not clear how the Ukrainian attack will develop - there are serious doubts whether the GUR is able to conduct a special operation against such a well-protected and obvious target.
