Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian arrived today on a visit to Oman, where it will be the first stop of his regional tour, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Tehran announced, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.

In Oman, Abdollahian met with a representative of the Houthis and expressed support for their attacks on ships in the Red Sea, France Press reported.

After the war in the Gaza Strip broke out, the Iran-linked Yemeni group began carrying out attacks in the Red Sea against what it said were Israeli-affiliated ships in a show of support for the Palestinians.

The agency notes that this comes almost a week after an alleged Israeli strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus that killed senior Iranian military personnel.

"Amir Abdollahian traveled to Oman as the first destination of his regional tour at the head of a political and parliamentary delegation. Bilateral and regional issues such as Gaza will be discussed at the meetings, the ministry said.

Suspected Israeli warplanes bombed Iran's embassy compound in Syria on Monday, in a strike Iran says killed seven Revolutionary Guard commanders, including three senior ones.

The United States is on high alert and preparing for a possible attack by Iran targeting Israeli or American facilities in the region in response to the attack in Damascus, a US official said on Friday.

The Israeli military has stepped up airstrikes in Syria against Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Tehran-backed Lebanese militant group Hezbollah, both of which support the regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Israel does not usually discuss its forces' attacks on Syria. Asked about the strike last week, an Israeli military spokesman said: "We do not comment on foreign media reports."
