Ukraine's prosecutor's office announced that it has information on 54 cases in which Russian servicemen allegedly shot Ukrainian prisoners of war, DPA and BTA reported.

The head of the war crimes investigation department at the prosecutor's office, Yuri Bielousov, wrote in Telegram that a total of 27 criminal cases have been filed.

The first execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war was in March 2022

There has already been a court ruling on a shooting incident involving a Russian soldier in northern Ukraine's Chernihiv region. In most cases, however, investigations were delayed by the fact that Ukrainian investigators did not have access to the crime scene or the victim's body.

Ukraine has been fending off a full-scale Russian invasion for more than two years. The United Nations has received information about 12 incidents in which 32 Ukrainian prisoners of war were shot dead between the beginning of December last year and the end of February. UN observers have been able to confirm three cases.

In 2022 and early 2023, the shooting of 25 Russian prisoners of war by Ukrainian soldiers was also documented, DPA notes.
