A landslide in DR Congo triggered by heavy rains has killed at least fifteen people and at least sixty people are unknown, reported the Associated Press, quoted by BTA, referring to a message from the local authorities from yesterday.
Seven people have been pulled out alive from under the mass of earth that slid on Saturday near the port on the Kamcha River near the town of Idiofa, in Kwilu province.
"There is a hill above the port and the rain caused a landslide from the hill," local authority representative Dede Mupasa explained to the AP. Acting Provincial Governor Felician Kiwai told media representatives that a rescue team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
A local representative explains to AP that it is not possible to determine the exact number of people missing because there is a market in the area every Saturday.
