There is no chance of defeating the Russian army if the US Congress does not release (blocked for months) 60 billion dollars in military aid for Kiev. This was stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in an interview with PBS NewsHour.
He defined it as a “disgrace to the US” the information that Congress can now allocate money for the defense of Israel, but not for Ukraine. This, according to Zelensky, shows that Washington is not interested in the security of Ukraine, but only plays political games before the elections for a higher rating.
„Today the ratio of artillery shells is 1:10 (in favor of Russia). Can we hold our positions like this? No. With these statistics in mind, the Russians will be advancing on the front every day. In order to defend ourselves, we need to equalize the ratio of ammunition”, Zelensky said.
The Ukrainian president said that Ukraine needs air defense and aviation. He gave the example of Iran's latest attack on Israel with hundreds of drones and missiles. Israel, with the help of countries such as the United States, Great Britain and France, was able to repel this attack. “Is Israel a member of NATO?“ asked Zelensky, who criticized Western countries for not providing the same assistance to Kiev against daily Russian attacks.
„I will give you an example of the Tripoli TPP, on which the electricity supply of the entire region around Kyiv depends. The Russians fired 11 missiles. We took down the first 7, but four destroyed the plant. Why? Because we have 0 missiles left, we have run out of missiles... Zero”, said Volodymyr Zelensky.
„This is the answer. Israel is not a NATO member. NATO countries defended Israel. They showed the Iranian forces that Israel is not alone. And that's a lesson. This is an answer to anyone on any continent who says you have to help Ukraine very carefully so as not to drag the Alliance into the war,” said the Ukrainian president.
The Russian army at the front greatly outnumbers the Ukrainian forces in manpower, weapons and ammunition. Asked if it is not time for negotiations with the aggressor, Zelensky said: “Russia wants to destroy us. Russia does not want to have negotiations. That is why the initiative must come from Ukraine and that is why such an initiative will take place in Switzerland. Putin does not want peace. Moscow's narratives, the intelligence documents we have... Everything tells us that Putin is not ready for negotiations.
„For him (Putin), this is not a victory. He needs a win. And for him, victory will be to destroy Ukraine. So how do you expect us to talk to a man who wants to kill us? There are voices in the West who say they fear what will happen if Russia loses the war. Aren't you afraid that we Ukrainians are dying here every day?“, Zelensky said. Such Western opinions are the disgrace I'm talking about, Zelensky also pointed out.
