The US intends to expand sanctions against Iran in the coming days over Tehran's drone and missile attack on Israel, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan announced, quoted by BTA.
Sullivan indicated that US President Joe Biden is in the process of coordinating with allies and partners, including the G-7, as well as with leaders of both parties in Congress, for a comprehensive response to the unprecedented Iranian air attack on Israel.
"In the coming days, the US will impose sanctions on Iran, including on its missile and drone program, as well as on entities supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Iranian Ministry of Defense," Sullivan added. "In parallel, our work continues with the Pentagon and the US Central Command to further strengthen the successful integration of air and missile defense systems and early warning systems throughout the Middle East in order to ensure even more effective counteraction to Iranian missiles and drones."
On Saturday, Iran carried out its first direct attack on Israel in the history of the Islamic Republic.
Tehran said it was carried out in response to the assassination of senior Iranian officers in Syria earlier this month.
