British Prince William is returning to his public duties today, participating in a public appearance for the first time in nearly a month after his wife Kate revealed in a video message that she is undergoing chemotherapy due to a cancer diagnosis, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
On March 22, 42-year-old Princess of Wales Catherine, better known by her maiden name Middleton, announced that samples taken after her abdominal surgery in January had detected cancer. She called the diagnosis a "huge shock", Reuters recalls.
The agency notes that since then, 41-year-old William has not taken part in public events, helping his wife and their three children cope with the ordeal.
Reuters does not miss the fact that on Thursday, William and his ten-year-old son George were in the stands at the "Villa Park" stadium in Birmingham for the first match of the heir to the throne's favorite English team Aston Villa in the quarterfinals of the European Conference League against the French Lille, won 2:1, but emphasizes that today will be his first official public event since March 22.
William will monitor the work of a charity organization distributing surplus food from public institutions, and then visit the youth center for which the supplies are intended.
Kate's chemotherapy is running in parallel with the treatment of her father-in-law - British King Charles III, who was also diagnosed with cancer, and almost at the same time, Reuters points out.
