FBI Director Christopher Wray said that the social app " TikTok" is a problem for the national security of the USA, reported France Press, quoted by BTA.
Ray made the announcement as the US Congress prepares to vote on legislation to ban the app unless its parent company divests itself of its US assets.
The app belongs to the Chinese company "ByteDance", which "has obligations to the Chinese government,", Ray said in an exclusive interview with NBC News, to which AFP obtained advance access.
"As they reflect on the power, access, technological capabilities and control that ``TikTok'' has, Americans should ask themselves what they think of that power, that access, that capability, and that control that it has. the company that owns "TikTok", the Chinese government and, ultimately, the Chinese intelligence services," the FBI director points out.
The US House of Representatives on Saturday approved a major aid package for Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan. The ultimatum regarding "ByteDance" is also contained within this package.
The aid package is expected to be quickly approved by the Senate.
American authorities claim that "TikTok" enables the Chinese government to spy on and manipulate its 170 million users in the United States.
