NATO country decides to support Ukraine until 2028

Strong support for Ukraine is the main security issue facing Iceland and Europe

The Icelandic parliament yesterday decided on long-term support for Ukraine in the period of 2024. until 2028, the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today, quoted by Ukrinform, BTA reported.

"Strong support for Ukraine is the main security issue facing Iceland and Europe. The international legal system on which our security and our standard of living are based is threatened by the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine,” said Icelandic Foreign Minister Tordis Gylfadóttir.

In the focus of the decision are independence, sovereignty, borders, security of the civilian population, humanitarian aid and reconstruction works in Ukraine. "With the decision and the corresponding commitment in the budget plan, we are laying solid foundations for our targeted support for Ukraine,” said Gilfadottir.

On March 26, the government of Iceland announced that it will transfer almost 2 million euros to the Czech initiative for the purchase of combat munitions outside the EU, Ukrinform recalls.
