Israel's attacks on the Gaza Strip have caused the most serious destruction in the region since the Second World War war, said today a high-ranking official from the United Nations Development Program, quoted by DPA, quoted by BTA.

"We haven't seen anything like this since 1945 – from World War II. "Such intensity in such a short time and the enormous scale of the devastation," said the regional director of the United Nations Development Program Abdallah al-Dardari.

According to a new assessment by the UN agency, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip could last at least until 2040. For example, 370,000 homes were damaged in Gaza by mid-April, with 79,000 of them completely destroyed.

The United Nations Development Program based its assessment on a model that takes into account the speed with which destroyed buildings along the coastline have been rebuilt so far, DPA said. Even if the rate were increased fivefold, it would take 16 years to rebuild all the completely destroyed homes.
