Today Russia celebrates the 79th anniversary of its victory over Nazi Germany during World War II. The parades in Russia, organized in honor of Victory Day, have been launched, TASS and BTA reported.

The largest such event in the Far East took place in the city of Khabarovsk. Both legendary World War II tanks such as the T-34 and IS-3 were shown, as well as new military equipment, including the "Iskander-M" missile systems. and modernized missile systems for volley fire "Hurricane" and "Tornado-G", reported a correspondent of the agency from the place of the event.

Traditionally, the largest military parade on the occasion of Victory Day will be held on Red Square in the capital Moscow. It will take place just two days after Russian President Vladimir Putin was sworn in for a fifth term in office.

Putin, who came to power only eight years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, will speak at the parade, according to Reuters. However, less equipment will pass through Red Square than before the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

The third parade since the beginning of the war will still take place in a more optimistic atmosphere for Putin after the known operational and tactical successes in the war in recent times.

Along with the defeat of the French emperor Napoleon in 1812, the crushing of Nazi Germany is Russia's most revered military triumph, and the two disastrous invasions from the west made Russia very sensitive about its western borders, notes Reuters.
