The newly formed Northern Group of Russia's troops invaded the Kharkiv region of Ukraine and took control of several villages. The border town of Volchansk is almost certainly Moscow's immediate target and is currently contested between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
This is stated in the latest intelligence report of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain.
It is noted that by opening an additional axis of attack, Russia is almost certainly trying to divert Ukrainian resources away from other parts of the front line and threaten Kharkiv, Ukraine's second largest city.

According to British intelligence, it is unlikely that Moscow has built up enough combat power to take the city without redeploying additional forces to the area.
