Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has been shot and wounded, according to local media reports cited by the BBC.
Fizo was shot in front of a community center in the town of Handlova, where a government meeting was held, reports say.
According to journalists on the spot, several shots were heard.
The Slovak leader was taken to hospital and his alleged attacker was detained by the police.
Handlova is about 180 km northeast of the capital Bratislava.
