The situation in the Kharkiv region for Ukraine has stabilized, but no one is paying attention to the real danger, writes focus.de.

It is about the strategic city of Chasov Yar in the eastern part of Ukraine. Experts from the Institute for the Study of War write in their daily briefing on the war that the Russian army is accelerating its advance in Chasov Yar.

The situation near Kharkiv seems to be under control, but this is not the case with Chasov Yar, which, if it falls into the hands of the Russian army, will give a huge advantage for advancing towards other cities in the Donetsk region. If Putin's troops succeed in occupying the city, the high ground will give them control over the surrounding area and thus they could start to move towards nearby settlements.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky announced tangible results against the Russian army in the Kharkiv region. Russia launched a surprise offensive in the northeastern Ukrainian region on May 10, opening a new front in the war. After the initial rapid advance, the Russian army's advance has slowed, but according to the US think tank Institute for the Study of War, the aim of the operation is to create a buffer zone along the border rather than go deep into Ukrainian territory.

Against this background, Russia announced the start of nuclear weapons exercises near Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said the exercise was “a response to provocative statements and threats by some Western officials”.

Russia's armed forces have begun the first phase of their planned tactical exercises, including "training for the deployment and use of non-strategic nuclear weapons," in the country's Southern Military District, the Russian Defense Ministry announced. Russian President Vladimir Putin issued an order to the exercise earlier this month. The Russian Ministry of Defense specified that tactics with "Iskander" missiles are being practiced in the first phase. and "Dagger".
