The newly elected president of Chad, Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, was yesterday sworn in and officially took office in the capital N'Djamena, Reuters reported.

President Mahamat Debi Itno takes the place of his late father, Idris Debi Itno, who was killed by rebels.

Chad also appointed Alamaye Halina, the country's previous ambassador to China, as the new prime minister, Reuters added, referring to a decree read yesterday on state television.
