US House Speaker Mike Johnson said yesterday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will soon address at a joint session of Congress, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
This comes amid growing tensions with President Joe Biden over the Israeli leader's actions in the war in the Gaza Strip.
Speaking at the annual Independence Day reception at the Israeli Embassy in Washington, Johnson, who is the number one Republican in the US Congress and an outspoken critic of Democratic President Biden's policies on Israel, noted that one such address will be "a strong show of support for the Israeli government at its most needed moment.
Such a speech is sure to further anger some progressive Democrats who have become increasingly critical of Israel's military policy in the Gaza Strip and Biden's support for it, Reuters notes.
