Singapore, Vietnam call for peace in Taiwan Strait

Potential military conflict between China and Taiwan will affect the whole world

Singapore's Vice Prime Minister and Vietnam's Ministry of Foreign Affairs have called for regional peace and stability as China conducts large-scale military exercises around Taiwan.

Speaking in Tokyo, Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong said the conflict in the Taiwan Strait will have dire consequences for each country involved, but also for the entire world. He called for dialogue between China and the US.

On Thursday, May 23, China announced that it was immediately starting a two-day exercise titled “Joint Sword-2024A” involving land, sea, air and missile forces. The communist regime considers its maneuvers a “punishment” about the president-elect's inaugural speech, described by China as supporting Taiwan's independence.

Ghan said the strait issue has already become the most serious point of conflict in the region. The possibility of incidents or misunderstandings will increase if the US and China are perceived as adversaries, he added.

Addressing his Japanese audience, Gan stressed that Singapore would welcome visits by aircraft and ships from the Japanese Self-Defense Force. The visits will support Japan's role in promoting regional peace and security.

In Vietnam, the Czech government hopes that Taiwan and China will maintain peace, stability and cooperation. Peace is of fundamental importance not only to the people on both sides of the strait, but also to the whole world.
