A ban on the entry of Russian tourists into Norway came into force from today by order of the government of the country that announced this move last week, reported TASS, quoted by BTA.

Transit journeys through Norway to other European countries, including Finland, are also now impossible.

As the Norwegian government previously specified, the new rules will not apply to Russians traveling to Norway to visit close relatives, to holders of certificates of being residents of the border area, student and work visas, as well as permits for residence in the countries of the Schengen area.

Norwegian border officials will have the right to refuse entry to the country to Russians with multi-year tourist visas previously issued by Norway itself or by other Schengen countries. Norway has not issued tourist visas to Russians since 2022. At the same time, Russian citizens can visit the kingdom with visas of other Schengen countries.

"Summer is almost here and we don't want Russians to be able to travel to Norway or other Schengen countries simply as tourists in the absence of valid reasons [while the conflict in Ukraine continues],” the Minister of Justice and Public Affairs said earlier homeland security Emily Enger Mel.
